Vik and I drove hundreds of kilometres in an endeavour to find the visiting Lesser Yellowlegs at Jerseyville - Vik to get some improvement shots over the ones he took in 2008 and for me it would be a 'newbie'.

After a few fruitless hours of looking for this bird both at Teal Lagoon and elsewhere in the wetlands we had returned to where the bird hide is.

Vik remained in the car to boot up his laptop to see if he could locate the phone number of a local contact who might be able to assist us in finding the bird.

I wandered to the water's edge and whilst my attention was distracted by Swallows this Lesser Yellowlegs mysteriously appeared on a stump in front of me.

Decent to the core I immediately went back to alert Vik so he could get some photos....yeah right....I immediately took several photos myself.

Then I sauntered back to the car and showed Vik my camera's LCD screen and said, "What bird's this Vik?"

He and his camera jumped out of the car like a pilot ejecting from a crashing fighter jet but the bird had gone. Maybe next year Vik.
